The Yellow Canary

This delightful portrait shows a little girl in a garden landscape tempting a yellow canary with a sprig of flowers. She is wearing a wide-shouldered white dress tied with a blue and white ribbon sash, her blonde hair arranged in tumbling curls.

The portrait is in good condition and is set in a later gilt metal frame backed with red velvet. An old hand-written label dates the portrait to 1820 and names the sitter as ‘Grandmother Clarke’.
