Painted around 1850, this charmingly naive double portrait shows a proud mother wearing a striking pink and grey plaid dress fastened at the collar with a large blue bow seated in an interior and proudly balancing her prettily dressed child on her lap.
Watercolour on card set in a period dark wood frame. There is some evidence of old creasing to the watercolour along the right edge and towards the bottom of the mother’s skirt though this does not detract from the overall allure of the portrait.
