Siblings in Blue

Circa 1840

Sold

It’s always heartening when portraits of siblings have survived together even when, as here, their identity has been lost. Most probably a little boy and his older sister, the children are wearing similar blue stripped dresses, the sleeves and neckline edged with white lace.

The watercolour profiles are set in matching flat profile bird’s eye maple frames with gilt slips. There is some dust soiling to the background card of the younger child and general wear to the old gilt slips but otherwise the pair are in good condition.
