Miss Wilson

Circa 1810

Sold

Finely drawn in the manner of Irish artist Adam Buck, this portrait shows a young Regency lady, possibly a Miss Wilson, seated before a window with a landscape view in a library, her arm resting on a folio volume placed on a nicely-figured table with well-filled bookshelves behind.

Miss Wilson is wearing a dress typical of the Regency period with its high waist, long slender sleeves and square neckline. Her hair is fashionally cropped and curled, her only ornamentation being an amber bead necklace and a gold buckle on her dress.

Drawn in pencil with watercolour details, the portrait is housed in a handsome flat profile dark wood frame. The backing board is inscribed ‘Miss Wilson’s’ which may or may not be the sitter’s name!
