Continental Ring, circa 1790

This striking ring is reverse painted on glass and backed with gold leaf using a technique perfected originally in France during the eighteenth century. The lady wears a puffed-out buffon, her long curls falling down her back.
The silhouette is set within an attractive verre églomisé border featuring shells, horns and flowers in an octagonal gold ring. The digits 4869 are scratched into the gold underside.

Fine condition and very wearable.
