‘Dead Ringer’
Circa 1810
£750
As Elizabeth Bennett famously said in ‘Pride and Prejudice’ …
Laugh as much as you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion
… and that opinion is that this young lady is indeed most reminiscent of Jane Austen as depicted by her sister Cassandra! Pale with a delicate complexion and neatly dressed in white, her brown curls peep out from under her frilled cap.
Painted in watercolour on card, the portrait resides in a gold-plated frame, the reverse glazed to show plaited brown hair.
