Coming of Age

This navette-shaped miniature shows a young lady wearing a blue décolleté gown with a white underslip. Her hair, worn in the à la conseilleur style of loose curls, is fashionably dressed with a white bandeau that is fastened with a bow under her chin. She is set against a blue stippled background that echoes the colour of her dress and in turn the blue of her eyes.

The portrait is presented in the original gold plated frame that is glazed on the reverse to reveal plaited hair. Fine condition.
