Charles Louis de Croismare

This French pencil and watercolour portrait shows a distinguished gentleman in a great coat and black stock. An inscription on the reverse names him as Charles Louis de Croismare (1792-1879) who was a Captain in the French Royal Guard. He married Sophie Syer in 1822 and had two children with her.

The portrait is indistinctly signed (C. blaize? perhaps) and dated 1832. It is housed in a bird’s eye maple veneer frame with a gilt slip.
