Ann Ward

Hairwork Pendant

£380

This mid-Victorian double-sided pendant continues the tradition of personalised memorial pieces containing hair. Laid on opalescent glass, one side features scrolls of hair with ears of wheat symbolising hope and nature conquering darkness. The name Ann Ward is elegantly spelled out in chopped hair. The reverse side also features scrolls of brown hair with gold wire and seed pearls.

The frame is 1 cm deep and tests for 14/15 ct gold. It has some very minor denting and there is a curious pin-sized hole at the bottom of the frame the purpose of which is unclear! Apart from a single loose pearl, the hairwork is in fine condition.
