A Young Gentleman

This small-sized but well-detailed portrait depicts a handsome young gentleman with brown eyes, a florid complexion and bushy sideburns. He is wearing a blue double-breasted coat with brass buttons over a white waistcoat, a shirt with a standing collar and a fashionably deep stock tied in a knot.

The portrait is signed ‘Chalon’ bottom left. It is set in a chased foliate gold frame, the reverse glazed to reveal a lock of hair tied with seed pearls and gold wire on opalescent glass. Immaculate condition.
