The Teething Ring
Circa 1840
Sold
Drawn in pencil with watercolour highlights, this charming portrait shows two young siblings, the youngest perched on a chaise longue with the older sister standing close by. The fair-haired baby – probably a boy – has a teething ring on a ribbon attached to the sash on his dress. His sister, wearing a tiered dress and little shiny shoes with ankle straps, is holding a posy of flowers.
The portrait is presented in an attractive bird’s eye maple veneer frame with a gilt slip.
