The Foot Soldier

Frederick Buck

£650

Frederick Buck was a highly successful and prolific Irish miniaturist best known for his commissioned portraits of the many officers passing through the busy port of his home city, Cork, on their way to foreign campaigns. Said to be from the 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot, this officer in a powdered pigtail wig wears a red coat faced with cream and decorated with silver braid and silver epaulettes.

The portrait resides in the original gold frame with chased decoration reverse. It is in fine condition, though there is a solitary thunderbug trapped under the glass and a scratch to the underside of the glass at 5 o’clock which the camera has overly magnified.
