Naval Officer

This fair-haired midshipman most likely joined the Navy as a teenager so he would have been an experienced seafarer when this portrait was painted a decade or more later. It is set in the original gold-plated frame that is glazed reverse to show brown silk. An old hand-written label names the sitter but it is pretty much indecipherable.
